Here's part two of my 105 things I love about Gone Girl (that no one talks about) list, based on Alex's original series. (here's part 1)
55. This shot of pure bliss as Nick is fighting for his life.
56. The scratching shot. I still don't know what its meant to symbolize.
57. Amy's laughter as she realizes just how much trouble Nick is in.
58. This great shot of Greta surrounded by cigarette smoke. Also let's give it up for Lola Kirke - what an alluring presence she has in the film despite playing a trashy chick.
59. The look of hurt on Amy's face as she sees Nick with Andie.
60. The back of the head again! And the fact how much this scene mirrors the ending of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
61. Tanner laughing at Nick after he tells him all about his situation. It's hilarious.
62. This.
63. Mountain Dew revenge.
64. Margo's oh fuck! as Ellen Abbot makes her incest accusation.
65. The badass lighting of the cigarette. No coughing this time.
66. Amy's hop of joy.
67. Amy deciding that there are still ways to fuck with Nick so she is not gonna off herself.
68. My favorite shot in the entire movie. It says so much with so little.
69. "Are we keeping score?" you can change her name, change her clothes, change her size, but Amy's mind remains the same.
70. The various parallels in the movie.
71. Tanner walking super slowly to great the journalists like a superstar.
72. The shocking brutality of this moment.
73. This moment. This was something that [Rosamund] came up with on the day: her scream into the pillow. I loved the idea of this kind of anger boiling underneath this very lovely and controlled exterior. - David Fincher
74. How frantic this moment is. Much like Nick's before, now its Amy's world collapsing.
75. How easy it is for Amy to fool Desi.
76. Look at Sharon's assistant. He is horrified that he has to give her bad news. This is how I look every single moment, every single day at my job.
77. Nick's confusion and Tanner's apologetic gestures after Sharon finds out about Andie. These two should have their own murder mystery spinoff show.
78. We are watching this moment from Amy's perspective. Do you see how the chandelier kinda makes it look as if Andie had horns?
79. Amy is so upset here she let's her abused princess persona drop. "The girl with the giant cum on me tits", there's that Amy wit!
80. Sela Ward is killing it as Sharon Sheiber in this movie.
81. This is it. The moment when Amy realizes she exchanged one trap for another.
82. The first time I saw Amy's transformation from abused Amy to actual Amy I gasped. Damn, girl.
83. This is my favorite of the shots of Amy's face in entire movie. She looks like a fierce tigress here.
84. Far and away the most disturbing shot in the entire film. Not the fact that a woman would that. The fact that someone would be cold enough to do that to a friend and pull it off so convincingly and meticulously.
85. "She's air".
86. Here's the thing about Amy - when she has a plan there is no one who can match her. When she was forced to act under uncontrolled circumstances she lost and got robbed. But the film sneaks in so many of those 'why not use this' moments for her that only add to her horrific, fascinating psychotic genius. She notices the hammer - why not mutilate myself to make it look like I was abused and make people not take a second look at my face because they think I'd be hurt by those looks, hence making it less likely anyone recognizes me? She notices the beet juice - why not use it to make it look like I was raped and I miscarried? She notices the box cutter - why not use this to kill Desi? She notices the bottle - why not use it to make it look I was raped? She doesn't think in advance of those specific things, she simply sees them, takes them and utilizes them for her plan. That is the scariest thing - the ideas are already in her head but she can use any random stuff that's lying around to give credibility to her lies.
87. That moment. It's too fucked up to even wonder where exactly she put that bottle.
88. Look at her eyes. Hitchcock would have proposed to that woman on the spot.
89. The way this whole scene is shot is one thing but the way this petite blonde overpowers Desi is another. This is pure ruthlessness.
90. How sad Amy looks after killing Desi and how quickly she - literally - shakes it off.
91. This. Good God.
92. The fact that tender, romantic and enchanting Sugar Storm is reprised in this scene.
93. Amy's dramatic faint.
94. It's amazing how funny both Pike and Affleck can be with this crazy script.
95. My favorite moment of Pike's performance. Amy is not even pretending here. She is so coy.
96. Amy's star status was well described in the book but it's exquisite how clear and powerful Fincher makes it with this shot. Look at Amy. She is playing saint again.
97. There are a lot of bizarre 'why was Amy covered in blood?' questions. Did it escape people that here the film shifted gears and we are in satire genre? Knowing Amy she probably asked not to be washed, to look like she did for the cameras. Regardless, all of this was done for symbolism, of Amy coming clean with Nick in their house.
98. That’s my favourite shot of Rosamund ever when she says, “Sleep on it.” It’s like you see she is strong, she is stunning, and she is nuts. — David Fincher,
99. This shot of Amy being glad to be home. It's almost cute, isn't it?
100. Fincher knows a lot of things but sometimes he is dead wrong. In the commentary he observes how much he likes that Amy, overnight, took control of Nick's cat. It's not Nick's cat! Bleecker is Amy's beloved cat. I sorta hate it how Fincher used the most humanly sympathetic thing about Amy in the book - her devotion to her cat - as a plot device to make Nick more sympathetic. Good thing in the end of the movie Bleecker is on the right side of the conflict.
101. You gotta appreciate the little fight Nick shows when he sasses Amy. "Amazing?"
102. Amy hits the BACK of her head three times in the movie. One time as Diary Amy, one time as Ozark Amy and one time as Real Amy.
103. This shot of Nick's face after Amy's cunt speech. It's like he finally realized who his wife is and how fucked he is.
104. How much this reminds me of the final moments in Sunset Blvd.
105. The first time I saw these two images next to each other I was legitimately startled. She looks completely different and it's all because of the eyes - such an angel in the first one and completely bloodthirsty predator in the second.
